Lakers News: 2023 Draft Picks Express What It Felt Like Being Selected By LA

LA is adding some shooters!

Last week, your Los Angeles Lakers selected guard Jalen Hood-Schifino and forward Maxwell Lewis in the 2023 NBA draft to add to their roster. Both players were seen as great gets for the team as they look to build their roster out to compete for a championship next season. Hood-Schifino likely will be with the main roster while Lewis may be playing with the G-League. However, the Lakers are ecstatic that they were able to get both players.

In their introductory press conference, both players spoke about what it meant for them to be drafted by the legendary organization. 

So for me like, my demeanor, I’m pretty laid back and chill so going into draft day, I was like a roller coaster, like obviously you don’t know where you are going and everything but I remember sitting at the table and obviously getting a call and the first thing I thought of was Kobe cause growing up I was a big Kobe fan so I was just like, this can’t be real right now”

Hood-Schifino will play a nice role for LA off the bench. His versatility and big frame should help the team play more effectively and gives them another option in case LA loses any of their guards in free agency. It was a home run pick for the Lakers and one that has gotten praise from many people. 

Lewis echoed similar feelings about being drafted by LA.

“So just being there that night, just remember, the Lakers and my name was just really surreal. Ya know, my pops is front Inglewood, California and I just have so many family thats from Las Vegas, that’s Lakers fans”

Both players seemed happy to join the Lakers and are hoping to help the team in their quest to bring another title back to LA. There were smiles all around during the press conference and both players were polished and held up well against the LA media.
