Lakers News: Anthony Davis Unpacks LA's Post-All-Star Push
Your Los Angeles Lakers have looked incredibly impressive with LeBron James back in the lineup alongside the team's totally revamped rotation, featuring five new post-trade deadline pieces. Across the team's two games with LeBron James (albeit against two opponents missing their lone All-Stars), the Lakers have won by an average of 15.5 points in a pair of lopsided blowouts.
Following last night's 124-111 victory over the Golden State Warriors, during which star big man Anthony Davis scored a modest 12 points on just 3-of-5 shooting from the floor (albeit with 12 rebounds and two blocks, as well as a +5 plus-minus rating), AD spoke with gathered media about LA's outlook down the season's home stretch. At 28-32, LA has a lot of work to do in its final 22 regular season contests.
"Still figuring it out," Davis noted. "The pieces we added, for our defense, for our offense, look really good. I think we're playing well. We're clicking. And we know that we don't have much time so, even though [we've had] a couple practices, we're still figuring things out on the fly. Our constant communication is helping that as well. The past two games, we looked really good as a whole. Hopefully D-Lo's injury isn't severe where he misses time, but I think we've got a complete team where we're able to make a little run."
D'Angelo Russell rolled his ankle in the first quarter of game action yesterday and departed the contest for good. He is now apparently doubtful to play LA's next game Sunday, though imaging on the ankle did not reveal any major injury.
Across his last eight games for Los Angeles, Davis is averaging 21.6 points on 49% shooting, 13.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks a night. Here's hoping he continues to thrive alongside the team's new pieces, even if he winds up taking a more modest offensive role going forward.
