Lakers News: Expert Establishes Timeline For Anthony Davis To Sign Extension With LA

The superstar big man become extension-eligible later this year.

Eight-time All-Star Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis may have had spotty availability during his recent seasons with the team (he has missed an average of 34.7 contests in his past three years with LA), but when he's been available, he's remained one of the league's best defenders and a lethal post presence on offense, to boot.

Starting on August 4th, the 6'10" future Hall of Famer will be eligible for an extension on top of the current two years left on his contract. He could be signed for an additional three years on top of the current two, which would take him to his year-34 season.

Alternately, the 30-year-old could also decide to see how the team performs this season, and opt out of the final season of his contract, becoming an unrestricted agent in the summer of 2024.

But at least one informed expert, ESPN LA beat reporter Dave McMenamin, seems pretty confident AD will stick around.

McMenamin spoke with his colleague Zach Lowe on a recent episode of the latter's The Lowe Post podcast.

“I am not too concerned about how this thing plays out,” McMenamin told Lowe. “Whether the max amount of year, the max amount of numbers are reached, that remains to be seen. That will be figured out between [Davis' Klutch Sports agent] Rich Paul and [Lakers team president] Rob Pelinka and [majority owner] Jeanie Buss and the like. But where things stand right now, I expect some sort of agreement to be reached."

Beyond that, McMenamin even projected a pretty optimistic timeline for The Brow to ink his new agreement with Los Angeles.

"I’m fairly confident that Anthony Davis will be coming into training camp on an extended deal.”
