Lakers News: GM Rob Pelinka Reveals Who LA Will Target in Free Agency
Sandwiched in between the NBA draft and the Summer League, NBA free agency is perhaps the pinnacle of offseason basketball, and your Los Angeles Lakers have the opportunity to shake up the NBA with some shocking player transactions.
But who exactly are the Lakers looking to pick up?
Well, thanks to The Athletic's Jovan Buha, we have a better idea about the profile of player the Lakers are looking to acquire this summer.
According to Buha's report, team president Rob Pelinka and the rest of the Lakers' front office are targeting some tough and defensive-minded players that will fit very well with LA's locker room morale.
Now who exactly does that look like?
As we all know, the priority for the Lakers remains with re-signing players like Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, and D'Angelo Russell.
But with free agency kicking off this Friday, the possible departure of players like Mo Bamba, Mike Beasley, Dennis Schröder and others could leave some significant cap space room.
The NBA free agency pool is filled with must-have players, but which ones fit Pelinka's description.
When there is a conversation about ballers that have a defensive-presence on the court, there are a few players that come to mind, and only very few are free agents this off-season.
Other rumors suggest that the Lakers could be trying to put Draymond Green in a Lakers uniform, while there are also opportunities for the Purple and Gold to go after vets like Nikola Vucevic, Brook Lopez and Harrison Barnes.
For my personal taste, a LeBron and Kyrie reunion in LA would be the most fun situation, but there are a few other more defensive-oriented unrestricted free agent stars, like Khris Middleton and Fred VanVleet, that can steal the ball and play better in transition.
Whoever the Lakers decide to pursue, the priorities are labeled. Configure the current roster, and then go on and look for who to add to the squad.
