Lakers News: Hall Of Fame Los Angeles Guard Raves About Top Draft Pick's Maturity

He's ready for the noise!
In this story:

Victor Wembanyama is not your typical number one overall pick and I'm not just talking about his rare physical build and play style. The way that he carries himself through all of the heavy expectations and critics is years beyond his age and despite seemingly being poised as a franchise player already, he is addressing the media in all the right ways.

Everybody expects him to be a superstar right off the jump and he is being looked at far differently than any number one pick over the past couple of years. Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has become a topic of conversation next to Wemby as well seeing that he was arguably the most hyped draft prospect ever but now fans are starting to think that the San Antonio Spurs' newest big man has passed him in that regard.

In a recent interview with Dan Patrick, Lakers Hall of Fame point guard Jerry West spoke on Wembanyama and what he's seen in him so far. West actually revealed that he believes he is doing great both on and off the court.

"He is unbelievably polished," said West. "I think after the first game I saw him play in the Summer League, I would say that maybe because of all the hype I was expecting to see a little more. But he gets up with the writers afterward and how many times do you see an athlete say 'I didn't play my best game, I think I'm going to get better moving forward.' It's hard to get some honest answers from players today because of what they're taught."

Jerry West has been around the biggest of NBA stars during his time as a player and executive. He knows how hard it is to step up to the media and truthfully admit to anything wrong. However, Wemby was open about how he was a bit lost in his first game and it will only help him moving forward!
