The HBO Show “Winning Time" finished its second season, but shortly after the season finale, it was announced that it would be the last for the show. Low viewership and criticism from some of the people being portrayed in the show have caused HBO to not renew it.

It had been rumored that the show was in trouble, but there was hope that things would get better. It’s unfortunate that the show was canceled, but that is just how show business works.

Jeff Pearlman, the author of the book that ‘Winning Time’ is based on, pleaded with fans on social media to spread the word about the show. Pearlman was fearful that a third season wouldn’t be approved, and his fear came true on Sunday evening.

“Winning Time

concludes its run after just two TV seasons, and only two titles for the show’s Showtime Lakers out of their eventual five. Even with its rich and glamorous subject matter, the series couldn’t attract a big enough audience to earn a renewal—partly because of the show’s shortcomings and partly because of bad timing.”

Per Daniel Chin of The Ringer

The finale has caused much uproar, as it ended with a win from the Boston Celtics, the arch-rival of the Los Angeles Lakers, which the show had been building up. Many people were critical of the show's ending here, but with HBO not renewing it, it remains to be seen if fans will get the ending that they deserve.

You can see some of the best fan reactions from the cancellation of "Winning Time”.

It seems that an overwhelming amount of people are angry that the show was canceled. It was a fun watch each week, and it was a reminder that not everything went smoothly for LA during that time period.

While there was some level of exaggeration from the show, it was a dramatized retelling of the events. It also is a TV show, so they are going to do things for added effect. But multiple members of the Lakers during that time have spoken out against the show, likely leading to some of the lower viewership this season.

Hopefully, another network can pick this up, and we can get back to watching this series. It would be a shame for a show about the Lakers dynasty in the 1980s to end with a Boston Celtics win.
