Lakers News: LA Starter Confident Team Has Most Talent In League

Give Rob Pelinka his flowers...

After a very strong offseason put together by Los Angeles Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka, LA has the feel of a true title contender. They prioritized team continuity this summer, rather than going star-chasing like in the past.

It has allowed them to put together good depth and a team that compliments stars Anthony Davis and LeBron James very well. LA should once again be in the conversation for the championship, and there is a certain buzz surrounding the team right now.

One of the biggest moves that they made over the offseason was re-signing guard Austin Reaves to a brand new contract. He really stepped up during the playoff run, and now he has vaulted himself into the third-best player on the team.

Reaves recently appeared on The Lowe Post Podcast and gave his thoughts about the upcoming season. He talked about the overall depth of the Lakers, and how he believes that they are the most talented team in the league.

“Yeah, I do. Like you said we brought back basically a core that went to the Western Conference Finals. You can call it fluky whatever you want, but after the trade deadline, I think we had maybe the second or third-best record in the league…Like you said [LeBron] being hurt, not even really having any time to mesh really. Things were, after the trade deadline, kinda just thrown out there. We had so much talent and we relied on our talent so much that it took us that far…I think, especially now and then training camp coming up, us being able to have the opportunity to grow [chemistry], and just situations to where like in the fourth if we have a couple bad possessions that we know exactly what we’re gonna get to.”

Per Austin Reaves on The Lowe Post Podcast

The young guard knows that having more time for everyone to come together this offseason should only help things move forward. LA was able to gel quickly in the second half of the season, so with a full training camp now, the sky is the limit.

“I would argue we have the most talented roster in the league from top to bottom. Getting Christian Wood on a minimum. Gabe [Vincent] coming from a Finals appearance. We have a lot of guys that are super talented and just getting this time to really build a foundation with one another is gonna help us a lot.”

Per Austin Reaves on The Lowe Post Podcast

Reaves is very confident in his teammates and in himself. He knows that it won’t be easy to win this season, especially since LA will have a target on their back after the success they saw last year. But this team has all of the tools to go win another championship, and it starts with executing their game plan each night out.
