Lakers GM Reveals Factors That Went Into Anthony Davis’ Historic Extension
Ever since Anthony Davis first touched down in Los Angeles years ago, the plan was for him to eventually take on majority of the superstar responsibilities from LeBron James as they formed one of the most talented duos in the league even with The King getting up there in age. James had never played with a big man capable of Davis' skillset and the New Orleans Pelicans were never able to get a perimeter star to help him out with the scoring and defensive loads.
The two did ultimately reach the number one goal and that was back in 2020 when they took down the Miami Heat in five games to win the championship. However, they have both made it clear that they are hungry for more in LA and even though Davis very well could have started forging a path to his hometown of Chicago, he instead inked a historic three-year extension with the Lakers worth $186 million. He is here to stay during the prime years of his career and in a recent interview with Spectrum Sportsnet, GM Rob Pelinka revealed how the front office determined that he was worth the money and investment.
"It was really centered around his character," said Pelinka. "Who he is as a person, how he treats his teammates, his commitment to just wanting to be the hardest worker and just wanting to establish our culture. Clearly, he's one of the game's most dominant two-way players but to see his desire to take on those leadership reigns was significant for us to have those conversations with him."

It hasn't always been easy for AD to lead this group, especially considering that injuries had him communicating from the bench at times.
However, his impact on the team is clear and he has a his own individual goals heading into the new season along with LA's own to capture that 18th title!
