Lakers News: Although LeBron James Seemed To Make Knicks Overtures, New York Office May Not Be Interested?

Does LeBron make sense with the Knicks?

The future of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is always a topic of conversation. Even in year 21, James remains the biggest star in the game today, showing that he is still going strong.

While the Lakers haven't lived up to their preseason hype yet, James has flourished on the court. But the reality is that nobody knows when James will hang it up.

He still has one more year left on his current deal, but his future remains a mystery. James likely won't be leaving the game soon, but he could be leaving the Lakers, if he so chooses.

James can opt out of his player option for next season to become a free agent this summer, leading to speculation of him leaving the team. There will be plenty of teams interested in him, but it appears that the New York Knicks aren't one of them.

"James, who can be a free agent this summer and recently refused to publicly indicate whether he plans on exercising his $51.4 million player option for next season, is giving his suitors hope these days. But the irony of it all, it seems, is that the Knicks do not appear to be one of them."

When the Lakers visited the Knicks a few weeks ago, James sparked a conversation with him putting on a New York towel at the end of the game. He also refused to acknowledge a suspicious social media post prior to the game as well.

This led to many believing that the Knicks could be in play for next season. James has always loved playing at Madison Square Garden, so what better place to finish his historic career?

But the Knicks seem focused on other avenues to improve their team. It would take a lot for them to bring James in, and that situation hasn't crossed the minds of the front office.

"Despite all the focus on James’ recent trip to New York, where he sent all sorts of pro-Knicks signals that sparked speculation about that Broadway-worthy possibility, a league source indicated the Knicks’ brass has not discussed the prospect of adding James."

This is great news for the Lakers, likely taking a big competitor off the market for James. Many never believed he would leave Los Angeles, but the thought is always there with a player like James.
