Lakers News: Broadcasters Believe Anthony Davis, Not LeBron James, Must Lead For LA To Win
As the Los Angeles Lakers get ready to embark on the challenge of the new season, the same thinking comes to mind. It’s a similar narrative that has been around for a few years. In order for the Lakers to find success, Anthony Davis needs to be the best player for the team, not LeBron James. We have seen the results when this happens, and it ended with the Lakers winning a championship in 2020.
James is getting up there in age and will be entering his 21st season in the NBA. He can’t carry a team like he used too and is most effective when he can take over games in spurts. James has shown that despite his advanced age, he is still more than capable of being a dominant player on the court.
But his body has started to breakdown as he has gotten older, and he can’t play with the same amount of energy for the entire game anymore. As the team heads closer and closer to the post-James era, Davis is going to need to prove his worth and show he can carry the team.
ESPN LA Radio Show Mason and Ireland discussed this and gave their thoughts.
Last season for the Lakers, Davis carried them when James was out with injury. LA looked great and it was a major help to get them into playoff position. For the year, Davis averaged 25.9 points and 12.5 rebounds per game.
Father time is undefeated, and James is learning this the hard way. It’s incredibly impressive what he can still do but Davis needs to step up and be THAT guy this season. He has proven in the past that he can do so but now must put it all together for the entire season.
