Lakers News: D'Angelo Russell Isn't Using Anthony Davis Injury As Excuse For Another Loss

Unlike Darvin Ham, Russell is all about taking accountability.

The Lakers' tough loss to the Golden State Warriors was highlighted by a gruesome Anthony Davis injury that, more or less, directly impacted the game's outcome.

Despite that, in his postgame presser, D'Angelo Russell didn't make excuses.

"We're not accustomed to playing without [Davis]," Lakers guard D'Angelo Russell said. "He's played almost every game this year, right? So that's something that is unfamiliar for us. But it's no excuse. Jaxson played his ass off. Everybody else that came in stepped up to the plate. But that's a tough team, well-coached team. So it's not going to be easy."

Per Dave McMenamin of ESPN

Russell's comment makes it clear that Davis's absence was a problem. However, despite that, Jaxson Hayes stepped in and covered for Davis to the best of his ability, leaving L.A. with no excuse.

Davis is one of the hardest players to replace in the league given his defensive prowess and responsibility, however, and that was extremely evident tonight.

Going forward, expect Davis to be back, as eye swelling doesn't typically last longer than a day or two, with Los Angeles back on the floor Monday against the Trae Young-less Hawks.
