Lakers News: Dennis Schroder Fires Back at D'Angelo Russell Following Rift Comments
The Los Angeles Lakers season has been full of drama, much like they normally are. But this year has seen major inconsistency on the court, which has translated to more comments from players in the media.
Point guard D'Angelo Russell was the scapegoat early in the season for the struggles that the team saw, but his play over the last few months has cooled that down. Los Angeles even elected to keep him past the trade deadline and he has been one of their more valuable pieces.
Russell recently opened up about all the trade rumors and his time being back with the Lakers, which included him taking a shot at former L.A. point guard Dennis Schroder. Russell added in that he couldn't have a relationship with Lakers head coach Darvin Ham due to Schroder and Ham's previous relationship, which caused major backlash around the fanbase.
Schroder fired back at Russell, saying that his comments showed immaturity on his part.
"I don't understand it. But at the end of the day, it just shows off immaturity. You're not really mature if you’re just keeping somebody's name in his mouth and just running it. I don't understand."
This is the latest installment of the reality TV series that is the Lakers. Russell's comments about Schroder were a little out of line, but they may have been more directed at Ham.
Russell hasn't been shy about making his feelings known about his head coach, toeing the line between saying anything concrete. Schroder took Russell's spot in the starting lineup in the Western Conference Finals, something that Russell seemingly hasn't forgotten.
Whatever the beef may be, Russell and Ham are getting along fine on the surface at least. The point guard has turned the corner in terms of his impact within games, so this all seems like an unnecessary situation the team doesn't need as they fight for their playoff lives.
