Lakers News: Final Trade Deadline Fate Of Dejounte Murray Revealed

Will LA land its rumored top target?

Atlanta Hawks combo guard Dejounte Murray, long rumored to be your Los Angeles Lakers' top trade target ahead of today's noon deadline, will be staying put this season, after all.

Sources inform Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN that Murray will play out the rest of his expiring $17.7 million contract alongside All-Star Hawks point guard Trae Young, on a team that's currently just the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference with a paltry 22-29 record. It's a bummer for Lakers fans, who no doubt wanted to get some more defensive help at the point of attack.

Across 49 contests so far, the 27-year-old out of the University of Washington has been averaging 21.4 points on .466/.370/.834 shooting splits, 5.2 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.3 steals.

When trade negotiations stalled out between Atlanta and the New Orleans Pelicans earlier this morning, an opportunity arose for Los Angeles to swoop in. Recent buzz had percolated suggesting that the Lakers might be prioritizing waiting until the summer to make a big deal, when they'll have up to three first round draft picks at their disposal (assuming they don't offload one in the final minutes here).
