Lakers News: Fresh Details On Anthony Davis’ Max Extension
Now that Anthony Davis received his new extension from the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2023 offseason, the stage is set for him to truly take the torch from LeBron James as he nears his 40's and put together some MVP campaigns. Another championship remains the top priority for this duo but I think it's time that AD shows the basketball world that as long as he's healthy, nobody can dominate both ends of the floor the way he does.
AD made history with this extension and the internet has had plenty of fun with their injury jokes and 'streets clothes' pictures but let's also not forget the way he was performing in the playoffs last year. He was able to average around 22 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks as LA was able to make it all the way to the Western Conference Finals.
Davis is still just 30-years-old and remains in the prime years of his career. New Orleans was never able to put the right talent around him to truly maximize his potential but ever since he's touched down in LA, Rob Pelinka and the rest of the front office have changed the roster each season to try to get him as much help as possible.
Official details of Davis' new extension state that he will make up $186 million over the next three years. However, Michael Scotto revealed that final year of the deal includes a player option for him.
"Lakers star Anthony Davis has a player option on the final year of his three-year, $186 million extension with Los Angeles, league sources told @hoopshype."
These next two seasons will be that much more crucial for the Lakers to take care of business seeing that is when LeBron James' contract ends with the franchise as well.
If they can win a championship or even two, they become an even more attractive free agent destination and LA can get Davis even more help when James likely retires!
