Lakers News: Heat Offered Gabe Vincent Lower-But-Longer Offer Than LA

Sometimes money just talks!
In this story:

The first day of free agency was very eventful for the Los Angeles Lakers. They addressed some real holes in their roster and came out of the day as a better team. The biggest signing that they had was grabbing former Miami Heat point guard Gabe Vincent on a three-year, $33 million contract. The team used most of their non-taxpayer mid level exception to land Vincent but it wasn't for the lacking of trying to keep him by Miami.

It was reported that the Heat made an offer to Vincent that was a little but less money but more guaranteed years. Heat President Pay Riley tried to convince him to stay but the un-drafted player decided to chase the money.

You can't fault Vincent at all for taking the money. He will earned over $3 million more a season with the Lakers than if he had stayed in Miami and can re-enter free agency again in three years.

Being un-drafted, Vincent rose up and now earned himself a nice contract. He isn't a star level player so now making a good chunk of change is something that he may have never thought possible.

Vincent also attended University of California, Santa Barbara for college and he is from Modesto, California. So maybe he also just wanted to come home.

Either way, this is a good deal for both sides and now the Lakers have a solid backup or possibly starting point guard. Vincent can shoot the three well and hounds players on defense. This is a win-win and a move that can help the Lakers claim title number 18 next season.
