Point guard Kyrie Irving and the Los Angeles Lakers have been linked together for some time now. It has only grown with LeBron James on the roster, and the team explored bringing him in over the last few seasons.

Even last offseason, there was chatter that the Lakers may look to add him to the mix while he was a free agent. It never came to fruition, but there was heavy talk about the possibility. Pairing Irving alongside James and Anthony Davis would have given the Lakers one of the best trios in league history.

Recently a rumor was floated that Irving had a strong interest in teaming up with James again in Los Angeles. However, NBA Insider Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson of Bovada Casino refuted the rumor pretty quickly.

Robinson is rather connected to Irving, so this feels like it may be coming from the player. It was also said that he pitched the idea of teaming back up with James during the Lakers' playoff run.

While Irving is a tremendous talent, his off-the-court issues have followed him. He has been good off the court this season, but he has proven to be unreliable in recent years.

The Lakers front office prioritized continuity this offseason rather than going out to make a splash. Even with the struggles that they've seen this season, it was the correct move to make.

Irving would have helped this team win a lot of games, but the headache that comes with him may have not been worth it. Ultimately, the Lakers decided that it wasn't.

Both sides have now moved on, and Irving is a member of the Dallas Mavericks. The Lakers won't be bringing him into the team anytime soon, if ever.
