Lakers News: LA Posts Solid Cable Numbers For In-Season Tournament Semis

LA easily took down the New Orleans Pelicans in impressive form.

The Los Angeles Lakers took down the New Orleans Pelicans by a score of 133-89 in their semi-final matchup of the NBA In-Season Tournament. After the first quarter, the Lakers took over and easily cruised to the victory.

Heading into the game, there was much intrigue considering who was on the floor. For LA, they brought the star power with LeBron James and Anthony Davis while New Orleans put out Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram.

Despite the actual game being a letdown for most viewers, except Lakers fans, of course, it did very well numbers-wise.

The ratings for the semi-final matchup for the Lakers came in at around 2.174 million, which is extremely solid numbers. With more context, the game was fighting against a Thursday Night Football matchup in the NFL, which likely drew some viewers away.

The NBA has done a great job with the first-ever edition of the NBA In-Season Tournament and it has brought in a ton of attention. Both fans and players alike are more focused on the game, and the intrigue has been great to see.

There were questions about whether or not players would take these games seriously before the start, but the motivation to win the prize money at the end has allowed it to feel very serious. The games almost have a playoff atmosphere feel to them, giving more seriousness to regular-season matchups.

It has been a success overall for the NBA, and with the Lakers making it this fair, it brings in more viewers as well. LA would love to be the team to take home the trophy for the first-ever tournament and add it to their collective of trophies over the years.
