Lakers News: LA Waiving Two-Way Standout Cole Swider
The Los Angeles Lakers have announced that they are waiving two-way sharpshooter Cole Swider. Swider was hopeful to make the cut this season after spending much of last year in the G-League.
In a corresponding move, LA signed summer league standout Alex Fudge to take over the two-way spot that was open from Swider’s release.
Swider broke onto the scene last summer as a marksman from beyond the three-point line. He was undrafted and signed with LA, hoping to make the roster. But his limitations other than his shooting spelled the end for him as a member of the Lakers.
Even this summer, Swider showed that he could shoot the lights out of the ball but not much else. He committed untimely turnovers and couldn't keep up with the speed of the game.
He was played off the court due to his inability to play effective defense or offer anything other than his long-range shot. Yet, in the modern NBA, his skillset is valuable around the league, so he will likely get picked up by another team. Swider is also 6-foot-9, giving him a good size to work with.
Swider averaged 17.1 points per game and shot 43.6 percent from deep during his time in the G-League. The offense is there for him, so if he can work on some things in his game, maybe he can see time in the NBA.
