As the Los Angeles Lakers continue their season, the front office has their eyes squarely on the summer. While they are still looking to compete for a title this year, plans are already being made for the offseason.

The Lakers will be armed with three first-round draft picks to trade away this summer after they elected to stand pat at the trade deadline. It's been speculated that the team will look to make a big splash this offseason, by adding another star to surround LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

However, the status of one of the biggest names linked to the Lakers could all depend on how his current team finishes the season. That would be All-Star guard Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks.

He is currently injured for a period of time, and how they fare without him, could push them to pull the trigger on moving him this summer.

"But in the franchise-level big picture, Young’s injury is by far the most interesting thing to happen in a mostly forgettable season. How the Hawks fare without him over the next month or so seems likely to have major implications for what could be a very eventful summer in Atlanta … or not."

Per John Hollinger of The Athletic

Young has been linked with the Lakers for a long time now, and this summer could present the perfect chance to make a move. Atlanta has been trying to break themselves out of mediocrity for years now, and moving on from Young could be the start they need.

The Lakers will gladly help them, as Young figures to be a perfect third star along with James and Davis. Los Angeles will have the necessary assets to make a deal as well, making this summer a potentially strong one for the Lakers if all goes to plan.
