Lakers News: Pau Gasol Explains What Hall Of Fame Honor Means For Homeland Of Spain

Where it all started!

The Los Angeles Lakers have had a number of unique stars on their rosters throughout the franchise's history. They have never been scared to take a chance on players that showcase different skillsets than what they were used to and even though they've aways had the advantage of boasting a big market to top-tier free agents, their front office burns plenty of midnight oil.

When Pau Gasol first kicked off his tenure with the Lakers, it was a breath of fresh air for the franchise. His trade was a big shock to the entire league and everybody was tuning in to see exactly how the purple and gold would try to return to contention.

Gasol was definitely no Shaquille O'Neal but his dominance as a center came in an entirely different form. Across 429 games with the organization, he averaged about 18 points, 10 boards and three assists and formed an amazing partnership with fellow superstar Kobe Bryant.

The international NBA champion recently got inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and spoke on what it means to him to represent Spain throughout the entire process.

“For most of my country, I think going into the NBA Basketball Hall of Fame it’s something that’s pretty extraordinary, pretty foreign too. It’s like hard to really grasp. What does that mean? Yes, it’s an honor. Yes, it means that you’ve done great. There are other Hall of Fames and stuff: FIBA has a Hall of Fame, which is special. Spain has a Hall of Fame. That’ll be special too. But at that level, the NBA Hall of Fame, it’s hard to really picture and imagine what that means, how big, how important that is."

We cannot wait to see how Gasol remains involved with the basketball community here on out!
