Lakers News: Top Free Agent Guard Set to Meet With LA ‘Early’
As the NBA free agency period is set to begin this afternoon, we are starting to see different players be linked with the Lakers. One of the hottest names around the league over the last few days has been Denver Nuggets forward/guard Bruce Brown. Brown helped Denver win their first ever title this past season and declined his player option earlier this summer to become a free agent.
Recently, he has been linked to the Lakers with the team feeling "confident" that they can sign him this offseason. With the Lakers declining the $16.5 million contract of guard Malik Beasley and waiving center Mo Bamba, it opened the possibility for them to use the non-taxpayer midlevel exception to have a seat with Brown.
If the team could land Brown, it would be a massive get for LA. He would check all sorts of boxes for the Lakers and would fit in with the team well. According to SNY.tv NBA reporter Ian Begley, Brown is set to meet with the Lakers early after free agency starts.
Brown meeting with Los Angeles speaks to their interest. The Lakers would love to add him to the rotation next season as he shoots the ball well and is a tough defender. Despite him being only 6-foot-4, Brown plays much bigger and takes on assignments around the perimeter.
He was a key member of the Nuggets this past season and he showed that he wasn't afraid of the bright lights, stepping up his game come playoff time.
If the Lakers and Brown are able to come to an agreement, it would benefit LA and weaken a rival in Denver in the process.
