Lakers Superstar Teases Olympics Return Following Team USA's Failed Medal FIBA Run
After Team USA lost to Germany on Friday morning, there was a feeling of major disappointment for all involved. The Americans were hoping to win the gold medal in the FIBA Basketball World Cup. Instead, they couldn't even capture bronze, having lost to Team Canada in the game for that medal on Sunday.
While the rest of the world has caught up in terms of talent, the United States still boasts the best overall collection of players. And the best of the best weren’t on the roster in this tournament.
This isn’t a shot at the guys who were competing (including LA's own Austin Reaves), as they are some of the better players in the NBA today. But the days of all the superstars playing seem to possibly be over.
However, after the defeat that Team USA suffered, there was one NBA superstar who hinted at some interest in making his return to the USA squad for the Olympics. It was Lakers superstar LeBron James, whose emoji comment sparked debate about a return.
If Team USA were to get James back into the mix, it would be huge for their chances. Even at his age, James is still one of the best players in the world, and he could do some damage in the games.
Plus, if James were to be in for the Olympics, other stars would likely follow suit. We could potentially see another run with some of the best players that the NBA has to offer.
James has already won with Team USA, but this could be his last chance to suit up for the United States. He has contemplated retirement lately, but this would give him one last shot to help out his home country.
It would be special for James to play with Team USA one more time and get one more gold medal out of it. It would be something out of a movie, so, hopefully, it comes to fruition.
