Lakers Trade Deadline Plans Revealed by NBA Insider

Los Angeles is looking to get themselves back into real playoff contention this season.

If you've watched at least two games from the Los Angeles Lakers this season, you likely understand how inconsistent the team has been from game to game. Their season has been full of ups and downs, and it has been frustrating to watch.

After reaching the Western Conference Finals a year ago, the Lakers have taken a step back. The core that led them in the playoffs may have hit their ceiling, and now it's on the front office to address the needs of the team.

The front office prioritized continuity with their core from last season over the summer, and it has worked out okay. But this team should be much better than they are right now.

WIth the NBA trade deadline approaching, the Lakers are expected to be one of the more active teams in the league. They have been linked with many different players, but it seems that they don't want to fully break up the core in place.

Lakers Insider Jovan Buha of The Athletic revealed the plan by the Lakers with the trade deadline coming up.

"The Lakers don’t want to just shake up their core, even with their disappointing first half of the season. They want to acquire difference-makers to address some of their glaring needs: 3-point shooting, perimeter speed, athleticism and better two-way play."

Per Jovan Buha of The Athletic

Of course, these things are always fluid. If the Lakers were to continue losing, it could increase the pressure on the front office to make a bigger deal. But for now, they may want to just add around the margins.

Los Angeles doesn't have a ton of tradeable assets anyway, so they will have to find different ways to be creative. The fate of the season may depend on how well the front office does at the deadline, otherwise, it will be another failed season for this historic franchise.
