Lakers News: LeBron James Favorite to Make Weird History Next Season, According to Oddsmakers
There will be a number of important changes to keep an eye out for in the 2023-2024 NBA season and at the helm of them will be the new flopping technical foul rule. This one was probably long overdue as the league had already ensured that if players opted to act and flop after minimal to no contact, they would get fined a certain amount.
However, after testing out this new rule in the 2K24 summer league, refs will now be able to penalize players immediately when they try to fool officials in-game. It's clear that the NBA is only growing in popularity and with a number of rising stars improving and games being streamed on more platforms than ever, it's crucial to ensure that the game is played in all the right ways. Defending at a high level and being rewarded for forcing opposing players to foul as they try to get a bucket is important as always but flopping, it hurts the sport in a multitude of ways.
And much like the MLB saw a number of stars commit their first pitch clock violations this season, the NBA community will be watching closely to see who lands the first flopping technical foul this coming year. Well betting experts have already listed their odds as to who is the most likely to do so and in front of James Harden, Marcus Smart, Chris Paul and Draymond Green, Los Angeles Lakers' superstar LeBron James sits at number one.
"LeBron James is the betting favorite to receive the NBA’s first flopping technical foul, per @betonline_ag"
This seems like it's just the experts buying into some popular narratives and memes on Twitter because at this point in his career, James has not been subject to these practices.
We hope that no matter who becomes a victim of this new technical foul first that our Lakers stack up as few as possible this coming year!
