The Los Angeles Lakers signed guard Spencer Dinwiddie this past weekend, after Dinwiddie cleared waivers. Dinwiddie was traded last Thursday from the Brooklyn Nets to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Dennis Schroder and Thaddeus Young, but was quickly waived.

After making no moves at the NBA trade deadline, the Lakers capitalized on the buyout market by nabbing Dinwiddie, who chose the Lakers over the Dallas Mavericks. Dinwiddie was one of the top players available on the buyout market, and helps ease fans concerns after their quiet trade deadline.

Dinwiddie brings depth to a Lakers squad that is trying take to make a playoff run. The Lakers are currently 28-26, holding the ninth seed in the Western Conference.

After the signing, the ten-year NBA veteran shared that he is very comfortable as a catch-and-shoot three-point shooter, and wants to team up LeBron James and Anthony Davis to increase those opportunities. Dinwiddie added that his focus with the Lakers will be to "Get downhill, provide rim pressure … just come in, be aggressive, set a tone," via Mike Trudell.

The new Laker is practicing for the first time with the team on Monday, and will be expected to make his purple and gold debut on Tuesday, when the Lakers take on the Detroit Pistons.

So far this season, Dinwiddie has averaged 12.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 6.0 assists while shooting 39.1% from the field with the Nets. This production is expected to help the Lakers close in on another playoff run, and ideally move up from their current slot, where they'd have to get to the postseason via the play-in tournament.
