Lakers News: Pundit Offers Latest Intel On Possible Anthony Davis Summer Extension

What does the future hold for AD?

The Los Angeles Lakers have a bunch of decisions to make this offseason. General Manager Rob Pelinka will have to figure out how to build this roster out in order to build a championship roster. The team has signaled that they want to retain the core of players that just got them to the Western Conference Finals but in addition to building the roster for next year, LA has a decision to make on one of their star players.

Anthony Davis will become eligible for an extension in August of this year and the team will need to decide how to proceed. They can offer Davis a massive extension to keep him in Los Angeles long-term or they can wait until his contract is up to decide how to proceed. Davis has dealt with some injury issues over the last few years but when he's on the court, he is dominant.

Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report believes that the Lakers will end up giving Davis an extension and rightfully so. He deserves to be a Laker as long as he wants and the team should grant him the new deal. Last season, Davis averaged 25.7 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 56 games played.

The Lakers need to start thinking in a post-LeBron James mindset and making sure to keep Davis after James leaves is ideal. The Lakers will not want to go into a rebuild and having Davis on the roster will make sure that doesn't happen. it would also allow other stars to possibly join the team to team up with Davis.

Signing Davis to an extension should be a priority for the team as he will be a big part of their future. Pelinka and company know this and will likely give Davis the extension that he deserves.
