Lakers News: Reporter Reveals How LA Will Approach Possible Anthony Davis Extension This Summer

Should the Lakers re-sign The Brow?
In this story:

Lakers star Anthony Davis becomes eligible for a new contract extension this August and questions surround whether or not the team should re-sign him. With any player, there are pros and cons but the Lakers plan this summer seems to be clear.

On ESPN morning show Get Up, insider Brian Windhorst stated that locking Davis up to a new deal that even goes past the contract of LeBron James is a "primary offseason thing" for the team

This should be good news for any Lakers fan because the team wanting to keep Davis means that they believe they can win post James. Davis is an all-worldly talent and someone that the team can't afford to lose.

I understand the concern from some due to his injury concerns but Davis is still one of the best players in the game. He has his limitations on offense, but his defense and rebounding makes his extremely valuable. Even with the injuries, he averaged 25.9 points and 12.5 rebounds per game.

Davis showed growth this season as a guy the team can rely on as the sole star. When James was out for an extended time this season, Davis helped carry the Lakers to the postseason. He showed out when there were those that doubted him and that speaks volumes to him as a player.

He is still a dominant player on both ends and gets a bad wrap from people due to some unlucky injuries. The Lakers should do whatever they can to keep Davis in the purple and gold. Additionally, having Davis around makes it more likely that another star comes to town.

General Manager Rob Pelinka has some tough decisions to make this offseason, starting with the future of Davis. The Lakers are close to title contention and just need some tweaks on the edges of the roster. Davis will be a key piece next season and hopefully for many beyond that as the team looks to raise banner 18.
