Lakers News: Sportsbooks Predict LA's Fate Against New-Look Suns

LA has a chance to make an early-season statement.

With the 2023-24 NBA season right around the corner, your Los Angeles Lakers are gearing up for another run to claim their 18th NBA Championship. They fell just short last season, making it all the way to the Western Conference Finals before getting swept by the Denver Nuggets.

But this year, LA wants to finish the job. They want to get back to the same spot, but be the ones who are celebrating at the end of the series. It won’t be easy, but they do have the team to do it.

LA will open their season up on the road against the Nuggets, and it will be their first chance to make a statement. But in their second game, they will be taking on a team that many are picking to be the best in the Western Conference, the Phoenix Suns.

The Suns loaded up this offseason, adding All-Star guard Bradley Beal to the equation to pair him alongside All-Star forward Kevin Durant and All-NBA swingman Devin Booker. Phoenix was already dangerous last season, but they should be even more lethal now.

LA gets to have their home opener against them, and it will be a good test to see how the Lakers match up. BetOnline currently has the Lakers favored for the home opener, with the line at -1.

The odds makers seem very high on the Lakers even before the season kicks off, and they typically aren’t wrong about these things. But the fact that Los Angeles is favored is interesting and shows how impressive of an offseason the team put together.

If they can take down Phoenix to open the season, it would send a message that they are here to stay. It should show that their success from last season wasn’t just a flash in the pan, so this game is important, despite it being so early on in the year.

They will likely have to go through the Suns at some point in the postseason if they want to reach their goals of winning the title, so learning how to beat them early on will be key. We should be in for a great home opener for the Lakers, and it’s almost time to see what they can do.
