Lakers News: The Summer Kobe Bryant Scored 0 Points & The Lesson He Learned

Locked in from a young age!

With Mamba Day recently passing by along with an influx of news surrounding the late, great Kobe Bryant hitting headlines, so many old videos and interviews showcasing his greatness also hit our timelines as well. Some were quite simple such as Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James sharing a photo of the two in the tunnel showing respect to one another and others showcased Bryant's personality like the text messages posted by champion teammate Trevor Ariza.

Once the Black Mamba retired in 2016, he did not just leave the game altogether. He broke down game film of multiple rising stars on ESPN's 'Detail' show, published his own book illustrating his Mamba Mentality and held numerous interviews speaking on his life on and off the court.

One conversation that surfaced as of late was between former pro athlete Lewis Howes and Bryant in which the five-time champion spoke about a summer when he was ten years old. Bryant was struggling playing in a league and actually failed to score a single point over the course of months... however, he learned a valuable lesson in the process.

"I was in a very prominent summer league in Philadelphia called The Sunny Hill where my father and uncle played and they were all-time greats," said Bryant. "Here I come and I don't score one point the entire summer. I was terrible... I remember crying about it, being upset about it and my father hugged me and said 'Whether you score 0 or score 60, I'm going to love you no matter what.' Now that is the most important thing you can say to a child."

From that moment, Bryant knew his father would support him no matter what he achieved in the end. However, he took the approach that he would aim for the moon instead of settling for the bare minimum.
