Warriors Superstar Has Waited Over a Decade for Lakers Playoff Matchup
Klay Thompson, we beg you to be careful... we all know what happened to the last person who wanted to play this Los Angeles Lakers squad in the playoffs.
All jokes aside, Thompson and Dillon Brooks are nowhere near the same player and the Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies are nowhere near the same team. LA just punched their ticket to the 2023 semifinals in the Western Conference and now have the pleasure of knowing they'll face Golden State.
There is so much history going into this matchup and I won't be surprised if it's one off the most-watched surround series of all time. LeBron James and Stephen Curry will face each other in the postseason for fifth time in their careers, sixth if you count the play-in tournament, and they are arguably the two greatest players of this generation.
All eyes will be on both of these superstars as they look to capture ring number five, but it appears Stephen Curry's fellow splash brother was hoping for this series to come true.
12 years in the NBA and Klay Thompson will finally be granted his wish of taking on the Purple and Gold on the biggest stage possible. After an ACL and achilles tear, he does not possess the lateral movement he once did but few guys can bounce back from such injuries and still average 21 points on 41% shooting from three.
His father, Mychal Thompson, actually was top draft pick in the 1978 draft and ended off his career with the Lake Show for his final five seasons. Klay, an LA native, grew up in Orange County. There's definitely some family motivation here to take down LeBron and company.
Despite the Warriors finishing just one seed above the Lakers and recording an 11-30 record on the road, LA should not take them lightly one bit. This is still a team that won a championship just last year and is built for the playoffs.
All of their guards will be the Lakers' biggest problems but should they contain them on a night-to-night basis and Anthony Davis continues to own the paint, we will be in great shape.
