Lakers News: When LeBron James Could Hit 40K Career Regular Season Points This Year
Last season was one for the record books for Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James. Not only did he help get the team back into the postseason, but he surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the NBA All-Time scoring list.
It was a dream come true for the kid from Akron, and a lifelong goal that he accomplished. But entering his 21st NBA season, James still has some milestones to reach in his career. One of which is hitting the 40,000 points mark.
James could easily hit this mark this coming season, and it will be something to watch for. He showed last year that he could still score at a very high level, so it’s completely reasonable to believe that if he stays healthy, he will hit the number.
ESPN.com staff put together a list of NBA milestones to watch for, and the 40,000 points quest for James made the list. They are predicting that he could get to that spot by a little over midseason.
“James hit one of the biggest milestones in the NBA last season when he passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the all-time leading scorer. James has 38,652 points. This season he closes in on yet another record as he is 1,348 points away from scoring 40,000 points, which would stamp his name in the record books as the first player to hit the mark. This is a reasonable feat for the King to accomplish -- last season he scored 1,590 points -- and using James' career average in points per game (27.2), he could reach this milestone by his 49th game this season.”
Per ESPN.com
James has done a lot of incredible things over the course of his first-ballot, Hall of Fame career, but this would just add another layer to his resume. This would be a special moment for him if he is able to hit the 40,000 club. He would forever cement himself as the greatest scorer in NBA history since nobody else has come near that number.
This certainly will be something to watch for this coming season, in addition to the Lakers trying to go for their 18th title. James will be at the forefront of both, and this should be a season to remember.
