Lakers News: Writer Believes LeBron James Will Finish Out Career With LA Nemesis

This would be insane if it came true.

For as long as anyone can remember, Los Angeles Lakers star small forward LeBron James has wanted the opportunity to play basketball with his son Bronny, an incoming freshman combo guard at USC.

The 19-time All-Star has spoken at length about it, even going as far as to say that wherever Bronny gets drafted, he will go too as well.

“My last year will be played with my son,” James told Jason Lloyd of The Athletic in 2022. “Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point.”

Per Inside the Celtics

But over the last year, the elder James has seemed to back off that thought a bit. He may be realizing that if his son is drafted, he may want to start his own legacy in the NBA. Bronny may not want his dad on the same roster as him during his rookie season as well.

This scenario will play itself out over the next year, as Bronny is eligible to be drafted next season. But one writer seems to believe that the elder James has a good chance to finish his career with the arch-rival of the Lakers.

Eric Jay Santos of Inside the Celtics believes that if Boston were to draft Bronny, James would follow suit to join him.

“Drafting Bronny James could pave the way to the Celtics signing his Hall-of-Fame-bound father. James has previously expressed desire to play alongside his son before retiring.”

Per Eric Jay Santos of Inside the Celtics

If the elder James were to land in Boston, it could give him a very strong shot at winning another title. He could play alongside Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and others. But would James really be willing to go to the Celtics after everything he has accomplished wearing the purple and gold?

Additionally, James has spoken at length about his dislike for the Celtics. While this remains an interesting proposal, I don’t see it.

Maybe he overlooks his own bias toward Boston and signs with the Celtics if Bronny goes there. But there are a lot of maybes in this scenario.

Nobody knows for sure what James will do once Bronny enters the league. But he has shown the ability to play at a high level, even at his advanced age. For now, he is fully focused on helping the Lakers win title number 18, and that is all that matters.
