Lakers News: Writer Has Strong Preference Among Available Free Agent Big Men For LA

This would be a hell of a get for LA...
In this story:

After the craziness of NBA free agency, most teams have their rosters set but there are still plenty of players left on the market. For the Los Angeles Lakers, they still have two open roster sports and plan to use one of them on another big man. The team signed former New Orleans Pelicans center Jaxson Hayes to backup Anthony Davis but the team is still thin in their front-court.

There are still a few options left on the market but it’s dwindling quickly. Some of the best left are former Dallas Mavericks center Christian Wood, former Orlando Magic center Bol Bol and Tristan Thompson who joined the Lakers for the playoff run last season.

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report believes that Wood may be the best option for the Lakers.

"Wood is the top center left on the market and, according to Bleacher Report's Andy Bailey, the best free agent who is still unsigned. The caveat here, and it's a big one, is that Wood may be too pricey for the Lakers, who need to round out their roster with a veteran-minimum contract or something close to it. Convincing Wood, who made $14.3 million last year, to take a team-friendly contract could prove difficult."

His ability to space the floor would vastly help out LA. Wood shot 37.6 percent from three last season for Dallas and averaged 16.6 points in 26 minutes.

Wood's defense is a work in progress at best but playing alongside a defensive presence like Davis could help him. Additionally, working with a coach Phil Handy could really help Wood. He would take a flier deal with LA to help improve his stock around the league which could be mutually benefical.

But would he realistically take a lower amount to join the Lakers and compete for a title? That remains to be seen but Wood would be the cherry on top to the Lakers already great offseason.
