Great debut for the second-year player!

Your Los Angeles Lakers opened up their preseason schedule on Saturday evening against the Golden State Warriors and ended up dropping the game. But, along the way, there were plenty of early takeaways to see from the matchup.

One of the brightest spots within the game for LA was second-year shooting guard Max Christie. Christie turned some heads with his performance and continued his strong summer of play.

He was great during his time in the NBA Summer League, and now it seems that it is translating over to the NBA court. Christie scored 15 points in the game, with 13 of them coming in the second half. It was a great game from him, and he made a good impression on everyone.

“Christie was the first Laker off the bench, signaling that Ham believes Christie is ready to assume a rotation role. He picked up where he left off in summer league, looking like a player primed for a breakout in his sophomore season.”

Per Jovan Buha of The Athletic

If Christie can continue to perform in this manner, the sky is the limit for him this year. His ability to knock down three-point shots at a high rate, and play strong defense should allow him to get plenty of minutes this season.

Teammate Anthony Davis chimed in on Christie, and he has been very impressed with the young player.

“His ability to score, toughness, defends. He does it all,” Davis said. “Ultimate confidence. There are a lot of things you can say about Max. He’s putting it together. He knows where to pick his spots on the floor, where he’s going to score, where to make the right plays. And just being aggressive. We’re going to need that from him at some point this season.”

Christie is ready to show the Lakers exactly what he can do this season, and it could lead to him being relied on heavily. When LA drafted him, they saw him as more of a long-term project, but it seems that he has come to play for them earlier than expected due to his strong dedication to being great.
