ORLANDO - The Orlando Magic is making a move fortifying its future.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Magic is signing point guard Cole Anthony to a three-year, $39 million contract extension.

Anthony, 23, was set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the season. But now, he's signed with the Magic through the 2026-27 season.

Today is the deadline for anyone in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft class to sign an extension. And Anthony, the No. 15 overall pick from that draft, is set to stay in Orlando for the foreseeable future.

"I think Cole has done a great job," Mosley said earlier in training camp. "His decision making, his playmaking, and we don't even talk about how he's done a great job of defending the ball. He's one of the guys picking up full court, changing the defense starting it out full court to make sure that they know he has a presence with our defense."

Anthony hopes to help bring the Magic back to the playoffs for the first time in his career. The team has missed the playoffs in each of his first three seasons, but as the potential Sixth Man for the team, Anthony will play a large role for the Magic this season ... and now possibly beyond.

Anthony and the Magic begin their season on Wednesday night at home against the Houston Rockets. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. inside Amway Center. The game can be watched on Bally Sports Florida.
