Jeff Weltman Reveals Key to Orlando Magic Success

While Franz Wagner, Paolo Banchero, and Wendell Carter Jr. remain lineup staples, the Magic's lineup begins to establish continuity throughout the rest of its young roster.

With a budding young roster that has not been fully established yet, the Orlando Magic still have many decisions to make regarding its lineup this season. While Franz Wagner, Paolo Banchero and Wendell Carter Jr. remain solidified in the starting lineup, the starting point guard and power forward, along with important bench players are up for grabs by many players on the team.

"I do believe that continuity matters," president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman said. "But I always tell you guys like in, it has to be a continuity of a team that you believe in, if you don't have a team that you think really has a ceiling and has a good trajectory, like why have continuity for the team. So obviously, the fact that we have maintain continuity this summer kind of speaks to the fact that we believe in these guys, they think they're gonna get better."

It is difficult for a team to discern a rotation when all of the players continue to improve on their own timelines. Markelle Fultz may be starting at the one on opening night, but that does not bar Cole Anthony or Anthony Black from taking that role later in the season if the two continue to improve.

For the Magic, this is a good problem to have.

While roster continuity may be difficult to establish this season, the overall growth of the team's players creates competition, which will only improve the players involved, leading to a better team overall. The fact that Weltman expresses his excitement in the team's continuity just brings more hope to a franchise that is eerily close to contention again.
