Jonathan Isaac made his first start for the Orlando Magic this season on Monday night, providing maximum effort in the two-point loss to the Dallas Mavericks. He posted a box score of two points and one foul but still had a game-high box plus/minus of +15.

And he only played eight minutes!

Isaac helped hold Luka Doncic to just 2-of-6 shooting and two turnovers when the pair shared the court. Doncic only scored six points when Isaac was out there, but finished the game with 45 points, easily the most in the game.

After the game, Isaac's limited play did not go unnoticed.

“I thought he did great," said Paolo Banchero. "I think he started the game very well on Luka, playing defense. His impact is always felt, so it was good to have him out there”

Isaac has struggled to stay healthy all season, only playing in 29 of Orlando's 47 games. He missed two full seasons due to injury and only played in 11 games last year, but his defensive impact was expected from day one upon returning from injury. In the season opener against the Houston Rockets, Isaac added two blocks and 11 points.

Isaac's 2.6 defensive box plus/minus is the second-best on the young Magic squad, and he is eighth in defensive win shares despite his limited playing time. His block percentage is tied for first on the time, indicating that he still has elite rim-protecting skills.

Mock Draft: Magic Select Top International Prospect

As the Magic pushes for a playoff spot and hopes to be a contender in the Eastern Conference moving forward, Isaac's defensive chops will be what keeps Orlando alive come playoff time, so taking things slow now will be well worth the payoff.
