NBA Draft: Magic Meets with Top Prospect Brandon Miller
ORLANDO - The Orlando Magic isn't wasting much time in meeting with prospective draft picks.
According to Khobi Price of the Orlando Sentinel, the Magic has met with Alabama small forward Brandon Miller.
Miller, who stands 6-9 and weighs 200 pounds, will likely be off the board by the time the Magic is on the clock at No. 6, but there could be a possibility to trade up for him.
Miller may not be the most well-received prospect of this year's draft. In fact, he may be seen as the least regarded player in the entire NBA, but despite his off-court troubles, he has a strong upside when it comes to the court.
In one season at Alabama, Miller led the Crimson Tide to a Sweet-16 — something it had only done twice since 2004 before his arrival. He averaged an SEC-high 18.8 points and fourth-best 8.2 rebounds in 19 games, showing multiple times throughout the season his ability to take over games.
Miller's biggest weakness may have to do with his off-court behavior. Miller brought the gun used in the killing of a woman near Alabama's campus in January. However, he didn't face any criminal charges. This led to a slew of negative attention in his direction.
While the kind of hostility Miller faced in arenas during Alabama's NCAA tournament run wasn't exactly the same as it will be in a playoff-type scenario in the NBA, he did prove his ability to perform when faced with adversity, making him a welcomed addition as the Magic's first high pick in their rebuild ... if Orlando can make a trade happen.
