Magic Nearly Traded Bol Bol on NBA Draft Night

The Orlando Magic waived center Bol Bol on Tuesday, but the 23-year-old was involved in trade talks leading up to the NBA Draft.

The Orlando Magic is moving on from Bol Bol, waiving him Tuesday after spending last year with the team.

However, Bol was apart of trade discussions on draft night.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Magic nearly dealt Bol to the Dallas Mavericks.

"Dallas did express draft night interest in former Magic forward Bol Bol, league sources say, but I’m told Bol wasn't the true target of the talks," Stein wrote. "The offer, sources said, was a pitch from the Mavericks to the Magic to take on Bol's contract for next season for the right to acquire Orlando's No. 36 pick in last month's draft. The Magic declined that pitch and traded No. 36 to Milwaukee instead in exchange for a 2030 second-round pick and cash considerations."

As Stein mentioned, Orlando eventually traded the No. 36 pick to the Bucks instead of the Mavs, who were targeting the early second-round selection. However, it's unclear what the return for the Magic would have been for Bol's $2.2 million guaranteed salary and the draft pick.

The 23-year-old is coming off a career-year where he averaged 9.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks while shooting 54.6 percent from the field, a season after playing just 53 career games leading up to it.

With Bol hitting waivers, any team has the opportunity to claim him now, with the order being based off last season's standings - meaning the Detroit Pistons have first dibs and Dallas falls to the No. 10 spot.
