Boos From Magic Fans 'Sign of Respect', Says Patrick Beverley
There are a number of players who will receive boos from the opposing crowd wherever they go, and Philadelphia 76ers guard Patrick Beverley is right near the top of that list.
The scrappy veteran guard has been working his way onto other player's and team's bad sides for years, and he absolutely loves it. In the Orlando Magic's last game against the Sixers, boos rained down on Beverley from the fans in the Kia Center. But instead of taking those boos as criticism, Beverley takes them as a sign of respect and uses them as fuel.
"Everywhere I go I get booed," Beverley said in an interview with Ky Carlin of USA Today. "I think that's a sign of respect. It actually helps me get going, but on the 'Pat Bev Pod' I mentioned that I really didn't know about Orlando yet because it was still early. I guess they took it kind of serious, took it personal. They wanted to give me some boos, but that's part of my career. I'm used to it."
Magic Remaining Schedule Among NBA's Easiest?
Beverley had a solid game for the Sixers, as he finished with 10 points coming off the bench. He also stuffed the stat sheet in his normal way, tallying four rebounds at his shorter height, and also getting a steal and a block in just 17 minutes of play.
Getting respect from Beverley is not an easy thing to do, so the Magic and its fans should use his endorsement going forward as fuel, as Beverley would do the same thing.
The Magic is back in action tonight against the red-hot Jalen Brunson and the rest of the New York Knicks. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET from the Kia Center.
