Orlando Magic 'Fans Were Incredible' in Home Opener, Says Jamahl Mosley
ORLANDO - Orlando Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley is happy that his team is 1-0 to start the season, and thanks the fans after the team's home opener against the Houston Rockets.
"I'm very pleased with out group but before anything, our fans were incredible," Mosley said. "That was something like I haven't seen in a long time. That atmosphere, the 35th anniversary, you know you have Rashard and Hedo out there introducing the guys, I thought that was absolutely incredible. And you talk about our guys being able to take that energy and build on it, not get too high not get too low but just to stay it the entire game. The fans, I mean, incredible."
The Magic walloped the Rockets at the Amway Center, coming away with a 116-86 win in front of the home crowd. The 30-point win was the largest margin of victory in the opening game of the season in Orlando's history, just edging out two 29-point wins from 2001 and 2010.
The organization was celebrating the first night of its 35th anniversary season, a celebration that included a pre-game, throwback jerseys and more. The anniversary will continue throughout the season with nine more games that have been dubbed "Classic Nights."
Game No. 1 was a sellout for the Magic, with a reported attendance of 18,846 in the 18,500 seat arena. Last year, Orlando was dead in the middle of the NBA in terms of attendance, averaging 17,765 fans in a 34-48 season. If the team can improve this year and make a run at the playoffs, sellouts might be the new norm in Orlando.
The Magic's next home game will be against the Los Angeles Lakers on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. Before that, the team has a four-game road trip on the west coast, which begins tonight against the Portland Trail Blazers. Tipoff is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET.
