Cole Anthony Would 'Love to Spend Entire Career' With Orlando Magic
ORLANDO - It came down to the final moments, but the Orlando Magic and guard Cole Anthony agreed to a three-year, $39 million contract extension on Monday.
If Anthony and Orlando hadn't reached a deal by the 6 p.m. deadline on Monday, he would have been a restricted free agent after this season. Instead, Anthony will remain with the only franchise he's ever played for.
With the new deal in tow, Anthony spoke about how much Orlando means to him and how he hopes to stay with them beyond the new deal he signed.
"I can't really imagine being somewhere else right now," Anthony said. "So my whole NBA career here. I'd love to spend my entire NBA career years down the line, but you never know what will happen. But I know right now I'm here and I'm happy."
Anthony added: "I'm here now more than I am in New York. So I mean, this is this is my home. This is where I'm at. This is where I'm going to be, so I'm happy I'm here."
Orlando drafted Anthony out of the University of North Carolina with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Through the first three years of his career, he has averaged 14.2 points, 4.6 assists and five rebounds per game.
Despite playing the least amount of minutes in his career, Anthony was the most efficient he has been. He shot 45.4 percent from the field and averaged 13 points, 3.9 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game. While it remains to be seen if Anthony will see more or less playing time with the additions of rookie guards Anthony Black and Jett Howard, one thing that's for certain is he'll play an imperative role in the Magic's quest to become a playoff team for the foreseeable future.
Orlando begins its season tonight when it hosts the Houston Rockets at 7 p.m. ET at the Amway Center.
