Magic Stars Shine in FIBA Exhibition

Franz Wagner and Moe Wagner helped lead Germany's offense, while Paolo Banchero's versatility was on full display for Team USA's 99-91 win in the FIBA World Cup Exhibition Game.

ORLANDO - The Orlando Magic's young stars were on display in Team USA's come-from-behind 99-91 victory over Germany in a FIBA World Cup Exhibition matchup in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. 

Magic forward Franz Wagner led Germany with a double-double, scoring 17 points while adding 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals in 30 minutes. One of his baskets was a two-point jumpshot over Magic teammate Paolo Banchero

Banchero did a little bit of everything for USA in 12 minutes. The reigning Rookie of the Year scored six points and had three rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block. 

Franz's brother and teammate on Orlando and Germany, Moe Wagner, had 14 points and three rebounds. Dennis Schröder had a double-double for Germany with 16 points and 10 assists.  

Anthony Edwards led Team USA with 34 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter. USA trailed by as many as 16 points in the final stanza. 

Austin Reaves and Tyrese Haliburton were also clutch down the stretch, as they each scored 16 points off the bench. Haliburton had a run where he scored 11 points in under three minutes in the fourth quarter. 

The next time Team USA and Germany take the court, the games will actually count in the FIBA World Cup. Banchero and Team USA head to the Philippines, where they'll play New Zealand on Saturday at 8:40 a.m. ET, Greece on Aug. 28 at 8:40 a.m., and Jordan on Aug. 30 at 4:40 a.m. 

Franz and Moe will head to Japan, where Germany will face the host country on Friday at 8:10 a.m. ET, Australia on Sunday at 4:30 a.m., and Finland on Aug. 29 at 3:30 a.m.

32 teams are divided into eight groups in the FIBA World Cup. The top two teams from each group advance to the next round.
