Orlando Magic Coach Jamahl Mosley Reveals What's Different About New Team
The NBA season is almost upon us, and things are already looking different than last year for the Orlando Magic.
Last season, Orlando had one of the youngest rosters in the league, and with that came growing pains. While the Magic were talented enough to beat a championship contender like the Boston Celtics on multiple occasions, they also had losses to teams like the Detroit Pistons, who remain far from contending.
However, more consistent play could be ahead now that Orlando's squad has more experience than it did a year ago.
"I think there's a heightened level of maturity," Mosley said. "Again, the experience is different, right? Like our age says one thing, but then the experience of last year it was another piece, but now they're able to do it all together. So there's a level of growth that each one of these guys is recognizing and how they have to come to the to the table with a little bit more maturity to how we're approaching it."
A year ago, the Magic finished with a 34-48 record and missed the playoffs for the third straight season. The hope is that last year was enough experience for young players in Orlando, such as Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero, to enter this season ready to make a jump in maturity and that it will translate to more wins on the court.
This year, the Magic added first-rounders Anthony Black and Jett Howard, who are likely to face some rookie growing pains. Luckily, with a more experienced squad around them than Orlando has had in recent years, they should be able to overcome any hurdles they face.
