Magic Rookie Anthony Black Reveals Goal for Season
Orlando Magic rookie guard Anthony Black is gearing up for his first NBA season.
In three games at the Las Vegas Summer League, the No. 6 overall pick of the 2023 NBA Draft averaged 11.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Black told NBA TV during Saturday's game that he's really enjoyed his first three games with the Magic.
"It's been super fun," Black said. "Really just coming out here for the team, we've known each other for a couple of weeks, so coming out to Vegas to play again has been really fun."
Black revealed his main goal for his first season in the association.
"A lot of growth," Black said. "We have a lot of good players, so we'll see how I fit in with the team and what the coaches want me to do. But, really just to grow a lot, win a lot of games and just learn what the NBA is about."
Coming out of Arkansas, Black was one of three Razorbacks selected in this year's draft, which was tied for the most by any school. Guard Nick Smith Jr. was selected by the Charlotte Hornets, while forward Jordan Walsh went to the Boston Celtics.
Black mentioned that he and Walsh both grew up in Texas and were teammates and adversaries long before their days at Arkansas.
"We played against each other growing up," Black said. We then played together on camp teams before playing together in college. We had a mutual goal of getting here. I'm watching [Walsh] play right now and just knowing that we're here is pretty cool."
Now that the Magic's Summer League season has ended, the 19-year-old has plenty of time to gain chemistry and create new goals with his current teammates.
