NBA Trade Rumors: Wizards PG Tyus Jones to Magic?
ORLANDO - The Orlando Magic appears poised to be a buyer before Thursday's 3 p.m. trade deadline.
But who could Orlando target to improve a young and rapidly ascending roster?
Perhaps it could be Washington Wizards guard Tyus Jones, who according to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, has drawn the Magic's trade interest.
"It appears that the Wizards are looking to stockpile draft picks by offloading veteran talent as they continue its rebuild," Weinbach writes. "Jones will be a valued asset on the market leading up to the deadline."
Jones, 27, has also played for the Minnesota Timberwolves (2016-2019) and Memphis Grizzlies (2020-2023) before being traded to Washington in a three-team deal this past offseason.
Jones is averaging 12.2 points and 6.3 assists per game and has shot 49 percent from the field and 39 percent from beyond the 3-point line.
If Orlando chooses to be buyers at the trade deadline, Jones would fit its needs, especially when it comes to improving its shooting from 3. Orlando is 28th in the NBA in 3-point percentage.
Trade Rumors: Magic Get Spurs' Doug McDermott?
Jones is also in the final year of his contract, so potential draft compensation won't be too steep, and the Magic wouldn't be tied to him long-term if things don't pan out. Should Jones be available for the right price, Orlando should be one of the more aggressive teams in pursuing the veteran point guard.
