'Special' Franz Wagner Helped Magic Best Spurs

Franz Wagner scored 34 points to propel the Orlando Magic past the San Antonio Spurs.

The Orlando Magic held Victor Wembanyama to only 15 points, Devin Vassell scored 23 points in a quarter, and Franz Wagner is not receiving the attention he deserves.

Wagner scored 34 points, his second-most this season, and did so on an impressive 76.5 percent shooting.

After the game, in which Wagner was easily the team's highest scorer, Jalen Suggs gave him some praise. “Special, special. He’s so in control," said Suggs. "Plays at his own pace, never gets sped up man. When he’s playing confidently it opens up so many things...Boogies a problem man. I tell him that everyday, he’s an issue.”

While the Spurs boast one of the best rim protectors in the league, Wagner was able to score from all over. He knocked down three triples and penetrated to the hoop with ruthless efficiency.

In his first matchup against Wembanyama and the Spurs, Wagner posted 20 points but was less effective from three. In both matchups, he took four threes, which is significantly below his post-injury average of 5.8 attempts. His willingness to attack the paint, even with Wembanyama down low, highlights his versatility.

Wagner and Paolo Banchero are one of the best young duos in the league and have the Magic poised to make the playoffs.

Since returning from injury, Wagner has averaged 21 points but posted over 30 on two separate occasions. Before his injury, he was posting 20.9 points, so it's safe to say that he's back in stride.

Magic 'Ailing Offense' Not Addressed at Trade Deadline

While Banchero is receiving praise for making his first All-Star selection, Wagner will not be far behind. He's been making a name for himself as one of the best young players in the league, and his props will be coming soon.
