The Dallas Mavericks signing of Justin Holiday brings veteran depth to the Jason Kidd's wing rotation.

The Dallas Mavericks have tallied a point in the buyout market.

On Wednesday, Dallas signed forward Justin Holiday, who was bought out by the Houston Rockets following a trade from the Atlanta Hawks.

For Dallas, Holiday brings a veteran presence with a championship ring on his finger to Jason Kidd's wing rotation.

Prior to Wednesday's game against Denver, Kidd said that Holiday can give the Mavericks 'whatever is needed' as far as his role in the rotation.

In 28 games with Atlanta this season, Holiday averaged 4.5 points per game on 34.5 percent from 3-point range in just 14.7 minutes per game, but there could be more to the story for his role on the Mavericks based on his history.

During his 10-year career, Holiday is a 36.4 percent shooter from downtown and has spent nearly half of his career as a starter in the league.

Over the last two seasons, Holiday started 117 of 146 games with the Indiana Pacers and the Sacramento Kings, averaging 10.3 points and 3.1 rebounds on 37.4 percent from deep. With playing next to Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, Holiday may be subject to the most open 3-point looks of his career.

On the defensive end, Holiday's long frame gives Dallas another wing on the perimeter alongside the likes of Josh Green and Reggie Bullock. Now, is he Dorian Finney-Smith? Not even close, but Holiday can hold his own and not present a negative on defense.

"I think we have most of the things covered," Nico Harrison told reporters over the weekend of the buyout market. "Just some wing depth out there that makes sense. Maybe some defense."

This shows that Holiday isn't just another 33-year old journeyman in the league, but a starter-caliber wing that Kidd will be able to utilize off his bench.

Holiday isn't as flashy of a name as Danny Green or Patrick Beverley might have been, but he knows his role and can play it well in the right rotation with Dallas, which he'll have the first chance to showcase on Wednesday against the Nuggets in his Mavericks debut.
