Mavs LISTEN: Dirk HOF Preview; Clint Capela Trade Smoke
Dirk Nowitzki's Naismith Hall of Fame ceremony is just a few days away, and DallasBasketball.com will be in Springfield to bring you exclusive coverage of the illustrious event.
On the latest episode of the Mavs Step Back Podcast, my DBcom colleague Grant Afseth joined me to preview Nowitzki's big weekend and share some of our fondest memories of the Dallas Mavericks legend, both before and during our time as media members. From his epic 2011 NBA championship run, to sharing the last season of his career with Mavs current superstar Luka Doncic, there are many Nowitzki moments worth reliving.
"Just seeing [Dirk] and his family enjoying all of it will be the highlight [for me]," Mavs owner Mark Cuban told DallasBasketball.com. "But for Mavs fans around the world, it will be confirmation that he is truly one of the greatest of all time, and we got to watch him for an amazing 21 years."
From there, we give a general overview of the Mavs' offseason, including the additions of Grant Williams, Dereck Lively II, OMax Prosper, Seth Curry, Dante Exum and Richaun Holmes. Although the Mavs missed the playoffs last year, are people underrating how good they can be this season with Doncic and Kyrie Irving having a revamped defense and more overall roster depth?
And as good of an offseason as the Mavs have had, it might not be over just yet, as a recent report about the Atlanta Hawks potentially trading for Toronto Raptors' Pascal Siakam, paired with Dallas' opening night starting center betting odds, have added more fuel to the Clint Capela trade fire. We discuss the likelihood of Capela ending up with the Mavs, and how he'd fit next to Doncic and Irving.
