OFFICIAL: Mavs Sign Texas A&M Rookie Dexter Dennis; Details
The Dallas Mavericks have had an eventful offseason, adding the likes of Grant Williams, Dereck Lively II, OMax Prosper, Richaun Holmes, Seth Curry and Dante Exum to their roster. Other players, like Jordan "Jelly" Walker, who was undrafted and played with the Mavs at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, will be joining Dallas at training camp on an Exhibit 10 contract.
The Mavs will also be bringing in undrafted Texas A&M wing Dexter Dennis on an Exhibit 10 contract as they continue to fill out their training camp roster. The signing was made official on Friday.
During his senior year at Texas A&M, Dennis averaged 9.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 0.6 blocks in 28.7 minutes per game. Although his shooting efficiency isn't where it needs to be – he shot 39.2 percent from the field and 31 percent from deep last season – the 24-year-old wing excels on the defensive end of the floor, and has also shown dynamic off-ball potential on offense.
One source tells DallasBasketball.com that the Mavs like Dennis a lot, and that they can envision him having similar upside to Dorian Finney-Smith, who was also signed by Dallas after being undrafted in 2016. The Mavs have one open two-way contract as they head into training camp, and there will be a lot of good competition for it between Dennis, Walker and Taze Moore.
